All sixteen cars in each train are powered. This is the fastest and most expansive trainset of Japan Railways (each set costs over US$40 million), only 9 set were built and are all use for "Nozomi" services on Tokaido and Sanyo lines.

It covers 1069 km from Tokyo to Hakata (all Sanyo and Tokaido lines) in 4 hrs 49 mins.
